Obituary for Robert "Bob" Braem

HARVEY, MI - Robert "Bob" Braem, age 93, of Harvey, entered eternal life Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at his home, in the loving, comforting care of his family and the caregivers of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Born February 10, 1924, in Bloomfield, Connecticut, a son of Arnold and Julia (Larson) Braem, Bob was raised in Bloomfield, graduating from Bloomfield High School, Class of 1942. He enrolled at the University of Connecticut for a year before enlisting in the US Navy. Bob served his country for four years during World War II, aboard the destroyer USS Jenkins in the South Pacific. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to college at the University of Michigan, graduating with a Fisheries Degree. He then began a long employment with the Fish and Wildlife Service, first in Cheboygan, Michigan and was later transferred to the Marquette Division. In 1954, Bob married the former Marion Draper and the couple established a home and began raising a family. During Bob’s career, he was an innovator and pioneer in sea lamprey control, working until 1983 when he retired. In his leisure, Bob’s hobbies and special interests included breeding hunting dogs, fishing, and hunting. He was a member of the Marquette-Ishpeming Beagle Club where he held board positions, loved a good round of golf, and his last trip to deer camp was three years ago at age 90. In his younger years, he also served on the board of directors of the Marquette Iron Rangers. However, Bob’s greatest pleasure came from being around his grandchildren, and any little kid, watching their antics and following their activities.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marion; his children, Patricia (Jeffrey) Magaw of Nashua, NH and Bob (Jane) Braem of Caro, MI; six grandchildren, Kristina (Dan Silva) Koskey, Julie Koskey, Brad Magaw, Lauren Magaw, David (Maria) Braem, and Mark (Julian Lawrie) Braem; three great-grandchildren, Ben, Caroline, and Leilani; his sister, Beverly Braem; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, William Braem.
