Obituary for Lori Ann MacGugan

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI - Lori Ann MacGugan, age 48, of Sands Township, left us to join her beloved mother in heaven on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
Born January 16, 1970, in Marquette, a daughter of David and the late Gretchen (Gregorich) Thompson, Lori was raised in South Marquette and was a graduate of Marquette Senior High School, Class of 1988. While in high school, she waitressed at Wahlstrom’s Restaurant in Harvey. In 1991, her daughter, Taylor, was born and Lori returned to Northern Michigan University pursuing a degree in marketing. She was then employed at the Ojibwa Casino Resort in Harvey, where she became reacquainted with Jay MacGugan, whom she had known since their high school days. They began dating in 1999 and later married in 2007. Lori was employed at the casino for over thirteen years as a marketing supervisor. Following her marriage to Jay, the couple resided on Silver Creek Road. Lori was later employed in housekeeping at the Ramada Inn for four years before concluding her working career. Lori had a great flair for creativity. She was a skilled baker (especially sweets), enjoyed doing glamour nails (known as a backyard nail tech), collected angel figurines, liked redoing her home, and loved the music of the Backstreet Boys often dragging her sister and daughter all over the country to see them. However, her granddaughter, Gabriella, was the light and joy of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with her. Lori was beautiful, softhearted, and generous with her time, Lori enjoyed doing for others and always thought of others first.
Lori is survived by her husband and love of her life, Jay MacGugan of Sands Township; her much loved daughter, Taylor (fiance Elliott Burdick) Thompson of Ishpeming; beloved granddaughter, Gabriella Burdick; her father and step-mother, David (Rita) Thompson of Marquette; a sister, Shelley (Michael) Bal of Harvey; a step-sister, Amy Piar of Chicago, IL and a step-brother, Harold Robinson of Negaunee Township; nieces and nephews, McKenna Lozo, Andrew Lozo, Jordan (Rozemary) Bal, Nicole Bal, Madison Piar, and J.D. Piar; numerous aunts and uncles; special friends, Lori Weaver of Green Bay, WI, Rhonda Cowling of Minneapolis, MN, Sandra Cowling of Ishpeming, Tim, Travis and Sara Thompson of Marquette; and her beloved feline companion, Craig; and canine companions, Sir Galahad and Shoki. Lori was preceded in death by her mother, Gretchen Thompson, whom she greatly missed.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday, February 5, between the hours of 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm for an informal Celebration of Life with sharing memories, enjoying desserts, and conversation.
