Obituary for Linnea J. Hedmark

MARQUETTE, MI – Linnea J. Hedmark, age 97, of Marquette, and former Skandia resident and businesswoman, entered eternal life Friday morning, December 1, 2017, at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Facility, in the loving care of her family and wrapped in the arms of her daughter.
Born November 30, 1920, in Skandia, a daughter of Ernest and Anna (Vickstrom) Johnson, Linnea was raised in Skandia and graduated from Graveraet High School in 1937 at age 16. She enrolled in a business trade school in Marquette and met her future husband in Big Bay while both were working. Linnea Johnson and Edward Hedmark were married in 1943, prior to his deployment during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, Ed returned to Skandia where he and Linnea later founded Hedmark Sales and Service in 1956. The business was the first to sell chainsaws in the Upper Peninsula and later held the Harley license in the 60’s and 70’s. The couple sold the business in 1983 and the Hedmark name continued as a Skandia staple through two more owners. Linnea and Ed loved to travel and wintered for many years in Florida. In her leisure, Linnea was very crafty, very skilled and inventive in creating items and fixing things. She was a very strong, intelligent woman and her resourcefulness and perseverance were profound. Linnea was a lifelong member of the Skandia United Methodist Church. She touched so many lives and left a legacy of love and inspiration.
Survivors include her children, Connie (Jim Soldan) Hedmark of Shelter Bay and Greg (Belen) Hedmark of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren, Amy (Markus) Roy of Elmhurst, IL, Adam (Kristy) Ryan of Iron Mountain, Andrew (Michelle) Ryan of Appleton, WI, Amanda (Mitch) Redepenning of Minnetonka, MN, and Edward Hedmark of Phoenix, AZ; and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Linnea was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Hedmark; a son, Gordy Hedmark; and a grandson, Rick Hedmark.
Services are scheduled for Sunday, December 10, at Marquette Hope United Methodist Church, Skandia Location. Friends may call at the church beginning at 12:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm, December 10. Rev. Christopher Hintz will officiate. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Skandia United Methodist Church, 189 Kreiger Drive, Skandia, MI 49885 or Trillium Hospice House, P.O. Box 7115, Marquette, MI 49855.
