Obituary for Grace U. Hyde

MARQUETTE, MI - Grace U. Hyde, lifelong Marquette resident, entered eternal life Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Norlite Nursing Center, in the loving, comforting care of her family and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Born in Marquette, a daughter of Roger and Uldene (Nadeau) Turenne, she was raised in Marquette and graduated from the Graveraet High School. On October 16, 1948 she married John H. "Jack" Hyde in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marquette. Grace later worked for the former Marquette Dress Factory and performed volunteer work at the former St. Luke's Hospital by working in the hospital's gift shop. In 1979, she went to work for Merrick's Ben Franklin Store in downtown Marquette, where she was employed as a floral designer in the store's craft department. Throughout the years she designed countless weddings and created permanent floral pieces for homes and businesses throughout the area. Grace's favorite insignia was a heart, and she placed a small heart insignia on each piece she created. In addition to enjoying craftwork of all kinds, Grace was also an accomplished gardener who lovingly tended to her lawn and flower gardens.
A member of the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, she currently was a member of St. Peter Cathedral.
Grace is survived by her daughter-in-law, Denise Hyde of Marquette; her grandchildren, Joel and Lukas Hyde, and Jennifer (Bob) Jacoby; great-grandchildren, Piper and Rogers Jacoby; sisters, Ilene White and Dorothy LaJeunesse both of Marquette; brother-in-law, Donald “Porky” Koskey of Marquette; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Hyde in 1985; her son, Roger Hyde; a sister, Mary Koskey; her brother, Robert “Bob” Turenne; brothers-in-law, William White and Robert LaJeunesse; and a nephew, Bobby Jo White.
Friends may call in the Bishop's Room located at St. Peter Cathedral on Friday, January 5, beginning at 12:00 noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Friday in the Cathedral with Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in Cathedral Hall. Spring interment will be made in the Negaunee Cemetery.
