Obituary for David Neil Braden

MARQUETTE, MI - David Neil Braden, age 73, of Marquette, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017.
Born October 3, 1944, in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, a son of Othniel and Ethel Elizabeth "Betty" (Hager) Braden, Dave moved with his family to Rudyard as a child. He graduated from Rudyard High School, Class of 1962, where he was active in track and cross country, and during his junior year won the state championship in cross country. Following graduation, he enrolled at Lake Superior State and later transferred to Michigan State where he received his Bachelors Degree in Marketing. On July 5, 1969, Dave married the former Clara Vachon in St. Ignace and together the couple made their first home in Lansing, where he was employed in construction and sales. The family relocated to Sault Ste Marie, and Dave continued his education by enrolling at Lake Superior State, receiving another degree, his Bachelor of Accounting Degree. A Marquette resident since the summer of 1976, Dave was employed as a accountant with Rogers Electrical. For the last 28 years, Dave owned and operated his own business, "Safety Sweeps" doing chimney sweeping throughout the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin, and his children, Briana and Jason, plan on continuing the business in the new year. Dave never shied away from work. He was generous, hardworking, and loved having his grandchildren around and following their activities. When he had moments to spare, Dave enjoyed fishing and traveling, especially during the winter months when he visited Mexico and various places in Latin America with his partner, Dail. He was an avid college sports fan, especially basketball, having played in high school and at Lake Superior State.
Dave is survived by his children, Briana (Mark) Ware of Painesdale and Jason Braden of Marquette; former wife, Clara Braden of Marquette; his grandchildren, Maya and Yasmin Braden, Orion, Cece, and Gavin Ware; his partner, Dail Murray of Menominee; sisters, Beth (Dan) Funderburg of Ozark, Joyce (Don) Willoughby and Marji (Riley) Gaylor both of Rudyard; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janet Fyke.
No formal services will be held. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Saturday, November 4, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
