HARVEY – Alton C. “Jim” Reetz, age 84, of 390 Terrace Street, Harvey, entered eternal life Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he had resided since September. Born January 7, 1927 in Neshkoro, Wisconsin, Jim was a son of Arthur and Martha (Dahlke) Reetz. He was raised in Neshkoro and was a 1944 graduate of the Neshkoro Public High School. Following graduation, Jim moved to Florida where he worked for at time before entering the US Army in March of 1946, serving until his honorable discharge in April of 1947. Upon completion of his military duty, Jim was hired by Clayton Dahlke to begin employment with the Dahlke Oil Company. It was an employment that would span over 40 years with Jim working in the gas station, managing U-Haul rentals, and being involved in the company’s delivery operations driving fuel trucks. He retired in October of 1989. Jim had a pleasant personality, a ready smile, and made friends easily. In his leisure, he enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, camping, and was a member of the same bowling team for over 20 years. He was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Harvey, where he served as chairman of the building committee. Jim also served as a volunteer fireman with the Chocolay Township Fire Department for over 24 years and was active with the Boy Scouts during the time his boys were participating in scouting, usually assisting with the baseball teams. He was a past president of the Jaycees and a past commander of AMVETS. Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elry Ann (Johnson) Reetz, whom he married June 23, 1951 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Marquette; his sons, Loren (Diane) Reetz of Little Lake and Jon (Jill) Reetz of Harvey; his grandchildren, Amy, Gregory, Spencer, Derek, and Erin; great-granddaughters, Mallory and Avery; his brother, Delbert E. (Donna) Reetz of Neshkoro, WI; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son, Kurt Steven Reetz; and a grandson, Christopher. The family will receive relatives and friends at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Harvey, on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. James Duehring, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will be made in the church’s memorial garden.
